Top 11 Best Hollywood Superhero TV Shows [New 2022 List]

Top 11 Best Hollywood Superhero TV Shows:

Superhero shows hadn’t been popular before on cable TV, mainly because they are mostly filled with bucket loads of visual effects and wacky costumes, which were super-expensive due to TV’s limited budget. However, in the past few years, MCU and DCEU have changed people’s perspectives about superhero shows, and now, some superhero shows are even matching the quality of Marvel movies!

So here are the Top 11 Best Hollywood Superhero TV Shows to watch right now: –

1. The Boys

The Boys - Top 11 Best Hollywood Superhero TV Shows
IMDB Rating – 8.7/10

And the number one contender on this list is…. not a superhero show, well, at least not technically. Well, there are superheroes in this show, and they do fight with macho-ness we all want. But the perspective has changed. Some superheroes are corrupt (you heard me right, corrupt in the sense of a real criminal, but the change is that their criminality is overshadowed by their fame of being a superhero, so they don’t get in trouble), and The Boys have come to babysit them.

The show follows the conflict between the Boys, CIA-led vigilantes who take down corrupt superheroes, and The Seven, the most popular superhero team who work for Vought, an American multi-billion conglomerate company. The Boys are vigilantes who want to take corrupt superheroes who abuse their abilities. It’s a nice change if you want to watch something interesting in this genre.

2. Invincible

Invicible-TV-Show
IMDB Rating – 8.7/10

From the creator of The Walking Dead comics comes another gore-filled profane show with J.K. Simmons (better known as J Jonah Jameson Spiderman movies, and Terence from Whiplash) and Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead, Okja). Though being released alongside The Boys season 2 on Amazon Prime may make it feel like a copycat due to both being adult superhero shows, Invincible has the upper hand due to being animated, which allows it to do things that were only possible with a big budget.

Mark Grayson is an ordinary 17-year-old boy turning into an adult, except his dad is the most powerful superhero on earth, Omni-Man. Under the guidance of his father, Mark must balance his superhero life with his personal one to prove to his father his worthiness.

3. Daredevil

Daredevil
IMDB Rating – 8.6/10

When Daredevil premiered in 2015 on Netflix, fans were blown away by how cinematic it was. While the Marvel shows on cable TV were more of filler-filled weekly basis-based sitcoms with cheesy acting and cringe storylines, Daredevil was a cinematic approach to Marvel comics the fans deserved after the film adaptation disaster it originally got.

Set in Hell’s Kitchen, the story follows Matthew Murdock, a blind lawyer-by-day and vigilante-by-night, as he navigates past the criminal scum in the New York neighborhood and crosses paths with iconic villains like Wilson Fisk and the Punisher. Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox’s performances as Wilson Fisk and Daredevil respectively make it worth a watch for sure.

4. The Punisher

IMDB Rating – 8.5/10

After making his lackluster debut for four episodes in Daredevil season 2, The Punisher was announced with his own show. Though it may seem another violent vigilante show like others on the streaming services, Punisher is instead a dark reality into how the dirty little government is hiding behind its political face.

The Punisher follows Frank Castle, an ex-marine who is forced into the life of vigilantism after his wife and children are murdered in cold blood. However, when he enters the dark underworld, he finds a darker conspiracy running deep in this situation.

5. Harley Quinn

IMDB Rating – 8.5/10

A show about Harley Quinn generally feels bland as she is always side-lined in the generational conflict between Batman and Joker. However, this show embraces this fact and uses gratuitous violence and relatable humor to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with shows like South Park.

The show follows the adventures of Harley Quinn in Gotham City with her best friend, Poison Ivy, after her breakup with Joker.

6. Jessica Jones

IMDB Rating – 7.9/10

Oftentimes, shows dealing with themes of PTSD and depression get too preachy to be taken seriously to the point that they start becoming annoying. Jessica Jones avoids that pitfall with a fantastic performance from Krysten Ritter (better known as Jane Margolis from Breaking Bad) and David Tennant (Doctor Who, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and a serious noir tone depicting heavy themes like rape, assault, and sexuality.

Jessica Jones follows an alcoholic private detective with super strength who must deal with her professional and personal life while suffering from PTSD after Kilgrave, a mind-controlling villain, made her murder someone.

7. The Umbrella Academy

The Umbrella Academy
IMDB Rating – 8/10

Though The Umbrella Academy may seem another cliched superhero team show about family and trust, that’s because it is. What makes it different from others is its implementation of ideas in such a way that it makes it seem fresh even enough if it seems tried-and-tested before.

Based on the comic series of the same name, a dysfunctional family of adopted superheroes must solve the mystery of their foster father’s death with an imminent threat of an apocalypse on their shoulders.

8. Titans

Titans
IMDB Rating – 7.6/10

Titans is an interesting take on DC’s Teen Titans comics maturely. Although other Teen Titans shows (Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go!) cater to younger audiences with its light jokes and cartoonish art styles, this adaptation of Titans grabs the attention with its dark narrative and its plethora of violent scenes, reminding us that this is not another CW show.

Titans follows Batman’s sidekick, Robin, a.k.a. Dick Grayson, who forms the team of young superheroes, Titans, to fight injustice in the city of Gotham and beyond.

9. Doom Patrol

Doom Patrol
IMDB Rating – 7.9/10

After appearing in the first few episodes of Titans, Doom Patrol is a spin-off, which is DC’s real answer to Marvel’s X-Men. Its wackiness not only lightens the mood with its sly sense of humor in this dark and bleak world but also shows that not all spin-offs are meant to be cash cows for established IPs. And it also has Cyborg!

Doom Patrol follows the titular team of unlikely superheroes, who received their superpowers from accidents and were cured by their mentor, The Chief. Though they are disowned by society for their appearances, inside, they still have a heart and will to save their friends and innocents.

10. Watchmen

Watchmen TV Series
IMDB Rating – 8.2/10

I am not lying when I say that HBO turns anything into gold (at least in its initial stage). After the polarizing Snyder’s film adaptation, Watchmen instead takes cues from The Boys and the original comics to give a “remix” of the comics with HBO’s natural style for violence and hardcore themes to Alan Moore’s philosophical messages.

Set 34 years after the original comics, a white supremacist group called Seventh cavalry, who are Rorschach’s “perceived” followers, are in a conflict with the Tulsa Police Department, which has forced them to wear masks to conceal their identity. After the mysterious death of her fellow colleague, Angela Abar must find the cause of his death while also discovering a sinister conspiracy about vigilantism.

11. Loki

Loki - Top 11 Best Hollywood Superhero TV Shows
IMDB Rating – 8.3/10

Though MCU has released around a handful of exclusive shows on Disney+, I deliberately chose Loki as it’s a pretty good example of an amalgam of the detective-criminal trope with parallel reality ideas. Even though its slow pace may put off some hyperactive MCU fans, its gripping narrative and excellent performances may make this the best MCU show.

After stealing the Tesseract, Loki is apprehended by Time variance Authority (TVA), an organization that monitors the timeline and check for disturbances in them. TVA gives Loki a choice between being erased from existence or helping them solve a greater threat. After choosing the latter one, however, Loki finds a greater conspiracy underneath what seems a small case, which may pose a serious threat to the multiverse.
